Irvine, Calif.—In an effort to accelerate the mass adoption of 10GbE, Solarflare Communications has begun sampling the industry's first 40nm quad-port 10GBASE-T PHY chip.

Earlier this month, Microchip Technology Inc. outlined its strategy for its most recent acquisition, Silicon Storage Technology (SST), saying that it will break up SST and sell many of the pieces to outside companies. Microchip also has no plans to enter the commodity NOR flash business and compete against the likes of Micron, Samsung and Spansion.

Zhangjiang is in the Pudong region of Shanghai, where IMEC already has an office. IMEC, which is closely aligned with foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. has had an office in Hsinchu, Taiwan since 2008 and at the time of its formation planned to open it up to R&D collaboration (see IMEC opens office in Taiwan).
